<image:title>Events - Coexistence, MY ASS! w/ Dir. Amber Fares / Hosted by From The Ground UP</image:title>
<image:caption>April 30th / Doors @6:30pm / Event @7pm TICKETS $15 THE EXPERIENCE Join us for COEXISTENCE, MY ASS! A documentary following Israeli activist-comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi as she creates a comedy show by the same name. Shot over five tumultuous years, the film traces Noam’s personal, professional, and political journey in tandem with the region’s steady deterioration. Raised in a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian village — the only intentionally integrated community in the country — Noam grows disillusioned with traditional peace activism. She pivots to stand-up and quickly attracts attention across the Middle East. But as her star rises, everything around her falls apart. With biting satire, Noam pushes her audiences to face difficult truths that aren't always funny but do remind us that another reality is possible. Learn More about the film and team: CLICK HERE After the screening, we’ll host a conversation between director Amber Fares and Katherine Murphy Lewis of From the Ground UP.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Katherine Murphy Lewis Founder & Artistic Director</image:title>
<image:caption>Katherine Murphy Lewis is the creative architect behind From the Ground Up — a director and dramaturg whose penchant for experimentation has produced award-winning performances, launched viable artistic careers, and redefined what an incubation model can look like in the American theater landscape. Lewis works fluidly across contemporary dance, physical storytelling, comedy, and devised performance. Under her direction, resident artist Andrea Parson won the Best Physical Theater award at the Fall United Solo Festival 2024 in New York City for You Can’t Be Serious — a four-year collaboration hailed as “real and raw yet polished and top-tier” (All About Solo, NYC). Her work has been recognized for putting “distinctive voices center stage” and embodying a “rejection of patriarchal standards” (Willamette Week). Lewis grew up in Ashland, Oregon — her mother working the box office at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, making theater accessible to a family “living very close to the edge.” That proximity to both art and precarity shaped everything that followed: the conviction that creativity belongs to everyone, the refusal to accept gatekeeping as inevitable, and ultimately the responsive, non-linear curriculum she spent ten years building at FTGU. Her formal training spans physical theater, mask, and clown at Dell’Arte International, devised touring work with Company of Wolves out of Glasgow, and theater arts at Southern Oregon University. She is currently developing The End, an immersive exploration of grief built from audio recordings made during her father’s fifteen-month journey with terminal cancer, in collaboration with Pulitzer Prize finalist Amanda Gronich.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Arwen Curry Development Director</image:title>
<image:caption>Arwen Curry is the director/producer of Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin, which was nominated for a Hugo Award and broadcast on PBS American Masters, the BBC, and Sweden's SVT. Since its premiere in 2018, the film has screened for festival and community audiences across the U.S. and more than two dozen countries worldwide. Arwen's 2023 project The Journey That Matters, published in installments on Literaryhub.com, includes six additional short films about Le Guin's life and work. In 2022, Arwen was an ITVS Humanities Documentary Development Fellow with support from the NEH. Before that, she helped produce EAMES: The Architect & The Painter, Regarding Susan Sontag, American Jerusalem: Jews & The Making of San Francisco, several films for KQED, and other projects. As a writer and consultant, she advises documentary filmmakers on grants, scripts, and proposals. Arwen is a former editor of the punk magazine Maximum Rock‘n’Roll and a graduate of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. She lives in San Francisco.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Aberdeen Stuart Program Assistant</image:title>
<image:caption>Portland born and raised, Aberdeen Stuart has explored countless mediums through the years. In the visual arts, they explored culture and tradition through pen and ink drawings of Scandinavian folk objects as an ode to their heritage. Aberdeen began performing in a Swedish youth folk dance group as a child and has loved the stage ever since. In July 2024 as a part of the first Bodyvox adult recreational summer intensive, they developed a drag persona Deenie Weenie and opened the show with a lip sync number. Playing with gender and identity, they continue to develop visual and performance art now.</image:caption>

And so she did what she must, and left! Now, ten years later she is walking back into an artistic space - but this time on her terms! Having met Katherine ( our founding Artistic Director) during their undergraduate years at Southern Oregon University she jumped at the chance to collaborate again. She’s grateful to return to a space that is process oriented and grounded in community, generosity, and shared process.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - Ripples in Contrasting Light By Meredith Sevy</image:title>
<image:caption>What lies in between? What lies at the edges? Why does it matter? Meredith sees the contrast of extremes, reflects on one discovery of loving herself, and invites the audience to consider how they live within their body and love themselves. She seeks to push comfort zones, not to increase discomfort but instead to expand those zones, to discover and create more comfort in new places.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - Samudāya By Sidney Novak</image:title>
<image:caption>Samudāya is a multimedia performance that viscerally depicts the phenomenon of compulsive thought and behavior, which ranges from the ritual cycles of religion to individual compulsive thought, and explores the conflict between free will and predetermined action, revealing the inescapability of patterned and cyclical behavior and how it governs us.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - Why are you so quiet? By Danielle Higbee</image:title>
<image:caption>Who are You? How would your family describe you? Your friends? How would you describe You? Does the truth lie somewhere in the difference? Can multiple truths coexist? Why are you so quiet is a live memoir exploring identity and how it fluctuates over a life. This piece is a speculation on the fringes between inner and outer experience. Through reflection and autobiographical storytelling, Danielle questions who has the control in deciding who You are.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - You’re the One in Here By: Sophina Flores</image:title>
<image:caption>"You're the One in Here" a new musical with lyrics by Sophina Flores and music by Daye Thomas. Three children, Lorena, Jem, and Gia live in a hallway where shadows stretch too long and doors don’t always lead where they should. In a bedroom with the door removed. At a dining table where silence carries more weight than words. Something is always watching, always waiting. They learn that fear can be inherited. They sense something in the dark but are told it isn’t there. The right things feel so, so wrong, and fractured lullabies evoke the childhood they never get to have. Everyone’s parents are like this. Déjà vu. They turn around and realize that the thing they were running from was inside the house all along.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - Water Makes Me Honest By Maddy Schultz</image:title>
<image:caption>Water Makes Me Honest weaves together personal narrative, movement, and ecology into a meditation on identity, memory, and transformation. Through storytelling and play, Maddy explores their nonbinary experience alongside the quiet resilience of fungi and the healing properties of water. With moments of confession and historical reflection, the piece blurs the lines between past and present, science and spirit, isolation and connection. From Catholic school to Tonka trucks, the journey is as expansive as it is intimate. This piece asks the audience; What rules are you still following? What happens when you let them go? Water Makes Me Honest is a celebration of fluidity, queerness, and becoming—a love letter to soft rebellion and the evolving self.</image:caption>

<image:title>More More More : Festival of New Works - First Times By Laura Cannon</image:title>
<image:caption>Of course, we all know there is a first time for everything, but have you ever considered that anything can be a first time for something? In First Times Laura Cannon will guide you through the mental gymnastics that she uses to keep dreaming big even when the road ahead doesn’t look all that promising. A parfait of humor, movement and hazy Slacker-era memories, First Times will ask the heavy questions and answer none of them. At least it will be fun. Hey, if the existential dread doesn’t get us, the high-fructose corn syrup certainly will.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This piece follows Katheryn on her journey through life inspired by her mother and accompanied by Shakespeare. The Bard’s language and stories buoyed her in times both contrary and joyful, As Katheyn’s story unfurls, we wonder how they both allowed her to survive and thrive.</image:caption>

Join Cherry as she cleans, reminisces, polishes forks, ponders the collapse of our solar system, reveals secrets, panics about the pressure to figure out what she wants in life, and wonders why no one can make chicken'n'dumplings as good as her Mom's, all before the timer goes off and the pie is done. And who knows? If Hubby isn't home in time, you may just get a piece of her famous homemade pie yourself! I've heard they're to die for...</image:caption>

In July 2024 as a part of the first Bodyvox adult recreational summer intensive, they developed a drag persona Deenie Weenie and opened the show with a lip sync number. Playing with gender and identity, they continue to develop visual and performance art now.</image:caption>

<image:title>Festival of New Works 2026 - Echoes By: Kate Holly</image:title>

<image:title>Festival of New Works 2026 - In / Between By Joe McLaughlin</image:title>
<image:caption>In-Between is a work in progress that steps into the dualities of this world. Can it be black and white at the same time? Can one exist without the other? And where black and white, light and darkness meet, what exists there? Is this where creation begins? War, destruction, lies, abuse, and prejudice are explored here. As well as love, kindness, beauty, compassion, and honesty. Can these dualities come together and become something greater than when standing alone? Joe, a Butoh performer/dancer for the past 18 years, combines the silence of the Butoh practice with the spoken word of theatre to create this new and evolving work.</image:caption>

<image:caption>What is real? Are monsters something to fear? What about hallways? Can anyone (including life coaches) help you? ‘now is the envy…’ is a delirious solo-show that flips between direct address storytelling, shadow puppets, stand up comedy, dance routines and poetry. A story that traverses through and beyond language, time, ancestors, nightmares and monsters, Franco circles three different realms in their quest to find answers to the question that haunts them. Arriving on stage in a wicker basket, bibbed and toothy and dressed for the occasion, Big Baby must figure out how to communicate with the world entirely without words. Expect audience inclusion, physical comedy, and an invitation — gently, playfully, irresistibly — into the role of caregiver. But babies don't stay babies. Over the course of the show, Big Baby grows up — stumbling into adulthood and finding that the world has questions it isn't prepared to answer. Who am I? Who will I become? There are grown-up shoes that must eventually be filled.</image:caption>
