Since 2013 Katherine has championed programing, workshops, residencies and new art development. Crafting her own innovative approach to community and nonprofit leadership and curriculum she has developed a model that puts artists' authentic voices and expressions in the forefront by creating a space for individuals to develop stewardship over their artistry, careers and lives. In the past seven years, Katherine has spearheaded a refocusing of the organization’s mission towards serving women/femme artists, launching the Artist Residency Program in 2017. This program has evolved into an annual six month Artists Residency that produces upwards of twelve new works from a cohort of multigenerational artists, each presented in From the Ground UP’s annual Festival of New Art. In addition to her work in leadership and education, Katherine had enjoyed collaborating locally and internationally, including her residence with Company of Wolves in Glasgow Scotland, in which she traveled and toured their show Achilles at Edinburgh Fringe and throughout the UK and Europe. Locally she has co-wrote and co-produced the new play, Tonight Nothing, in partnership with Merideth Kaye Clark, which premiered at CoHo Production’s summer of 2019. Most recently she produced and directed You Can’t Be Serious, a new work that lives between light and dark, between down and up, between the weight of tears and the levity of laughter. Since the world premier in November 2023 You Can’t Be Serious has been met with sold out shows and rave reviews and has gone on to tour regionally and nationally. Currently Katherine is leading From the Ground UP into its next phase of evolution, working with Arts Action research Katherine is bringing forth a new phase of programs, all aimed at reimagining who, what and how we create new live art. As a grant writer, Leila works with individual artists, for-profit companies, and local non-profits, including Jazz Society of Oregon and Historic Alberta House. As development director for From The Ground Up, Leila gets to combine her professional skills with her deep yearning to love the work she does. A woman of many opinions and a desire to share them all, Leila is particularly adamant about the need for robust arts funding and the belief that we, as a society, have woefully misapplied our financial resources. In the visual arts, they explored culture and tradition through pen and ink drawings of Scandinavian folk objects as an ode to their heritage. Aberdeen began performing in a Swedish youth folk dance group as a child and has loved the stage ever since. In July 2024 as a part of the first Bodyvox adult recreational summer intensive, they developed a drag persona Deenie Weenie and opened the show with a lip sync number. Deanna has worked extensively in the theatre and marvels at the creation of an engaging new piece of theater. She has served as Artistic Director for Women’s Workshop in NYC as well as the Nevada Theatre Company in Las Vegas. Her education includes an MFA in Directing from University of Virginia and an MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University. She loves travel and has called many places home, most recently and usually, a small cabin in Jewell, Oregon shared with my cattle dog Abby and partner, Tod. Singing passionately about soup as the Mock Turtle in Alice in Wonderland sealed the deal. After summers at the Burlington Shakespeare Festival, she obtained a degree in drama at UVM, studied method acting with Lee Strasberg in NYC, (hated it), did voiceovers, hosted a weekly cable TV show, then took a sharp turn to play a real lawyer in the NJ criminal, civil, and family courts. Drawn magnetically back, she performed in community theatre productions of The Dining Room, California Suites and Midsummer Night's Dream. Based in Portland, Oregon, she maintains a strong connection to New Orleans, where she serves as Director of Dance Film at BODYART’s International Dance Festival NOLA. She is also the co-Artistic Director of Muddy Feet Contemporary Dance, alongside Suzanne Chi. A graduate of the former University of the Arts, Rachel has performed for Minh Tran & Company, Franco Nieto, Tracey Durbin, Carla Mann, and BODYART, among many others. She is an alumna and former faculty member of the Jefferson Dancers, and a dedicated mentor to young artists. Her choreographic work has been presented across the Pacific Northwest and nationally, in cities such as Detroit, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, as well as internationally in Amsterdam and Melbourne. Dance films created with Muddy Feet Contemporary Dance have screened in 25 countries and at over 45 festivals worldwide, earning multiple awards. Rachel’s creative work orients around visceral, textural movement and the excavation of memory and emotion. A Resident Artist at FLOCK Dance Center and 2024 Miller Foundation Spark Awardee, she is currently developing her first evening-length solo, Daughter Debris. Kamala has completed prior artist residencies with COHO Theatre and Kolaj institute.
