Winter Residency

Advanced

Our Advanced Residency is offered every winter. This 10-week residency, the second in our three part sequence is offered to residents from the fall session and/or interested artists with a developing body of work. Residents will take ‘raw’ material and develop them into a ‘Rough Draft’, aka a draft or collection of new art that has begun to take shape and is ready to prepare for an audience.

Led by Artistic Director Katherine Murphy Lewis and Program Director Jacquelle Davis each advanced resident will dive deep into their emerging stories and create a larger body of work that will be organized into a ‘rough draft’. Workshops will include in depth writing sessions and new work presentations with in depth feedback sessions that will give each resident a variety of tools and approaches from From the Ground UP’s innovative methodology.

This session will culminate with an ‘in-house public’ presentation of their rough drafts and a curated feedback session that will give each resident crucial information about their emerging work; propelling them into their next stage of development.

WHAT:

For this Advanced Residency, Katherine blends her background in autobiographical performance, physical theater, and new play development to offer a one-of-a-kind experience. Participants move through a series of exercises from physical exploration and research and development, to writing, construction, and editing. Participants will leave with new ‘Rough Draft’ of material and a solid foundation for creating new art. Offered to alumni of either the Fall Residency and/or interested artists with a developing body of work.
